Will I need to fire my design?

NO. we believe in making our products as inclusive and accessible to all, the clay is air drying. Everything you need is included within the kit, so you can create in the comfort of your own home.  There will be a little shrinkage but we have provided all the secrets to keeping your unique creation crack free and remaining perfect for years to come.

Can I only produce heads?

Not at all! We encourage creativity so we welcome you to create anything you wish, see it as very organic fluid process. Clay is very forgiving so there really won't be any mistakes that cant be repaired, changed or rectified to suit your vision. We have many exciting projects in the pipeline, but we are getting ready to launch Skullpta Pet kits.  This enables the creator to produce various animal heads including cats dogs bunnies and many more.

The process of creating a Skullpta Face is that its semi-guided to take away the pressure of creating a perfect anatomically correct piece of work. Within the studio setting or at home we provide instruction on how to apply the basic components of the face, eyes ears nose etc. This is just the base layer for the rest of your own unique creative expression. Your only barrier is yourself.

How long does the clay/kit take to dry?

If left alone the clay dries by itself in around 24-48 hours. This time will vary depending on how thick the creative piece of work is.

Please do not put your piece in the oven or apply heat to try to speed this process up because it will likely cause your masterpiece to crack.  It is essential that it's kept out of direct sunlight. If cracks start to appear ( because of the 5% shrinkage ) see our tips and tricks section for help with this.

Can I seal & paint my work?

Only once the clay is completely dried out, usually around 7 days. During this time a little maintenance may be needed to ensure a perfect finish ( see tips and tricks )

After this you are free to paint, we advise a base coat of white paint to ensure an even and natural layer to apply any colour.  Allow white paint to dry for 24 hours before adding more details with other colours. We provide acrylic paints (see extras )

Once all layers  of paint are dry use the sealant provided to finish. We offer both gloss and matt finish within the kit boxes.

How long will my clay last?

Untouched our airdrying clay lasts for 3-6 months in its original packaging. To keep your kits longer or if you are only using some clay at one time, we recommend wrapping it in cling film and storing it in an airtight container.  It can even be frozen. We specifically use this clay so that is can be used over and over again, everything used to create with our business is reusable without limit.

What paints can I use?

You can buy acrylic paints on our website to use on our clay, you can choose between classic and pastel colours.

What surface is best to work on?

We recommend working on a non-porous surface that the clay will not get stuck, that way you can wipe it down easily when you're finished. You can buy a specialist Skullpta Mat from our website.

How do I clean it up?

The clay will wipe off any non-porous surface without leaving any stain, if there is a dusty residue left then wipe again with a rinsed cloth or clean wipe.

Is the clay safe to use with children?

Our kits are non-toxic but it wouldn’t be much fun eating clay. So we advise anyone under the age of 7 to have adult supervision just in case. The clay is safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women, with no upper or lower age limit.  Who are we to put an ideal age on creativity?
